Jerusalem, is the Center of the World According to God
Ezekiel 5:5-6 Thus saith the LORD GOD; This is Jerusalem: I have set it in the midst of the nations and countries that are round about her. 6 And she hath changed my judgments into wickedness more than the nations, and my statutes more than the countries that are round about her: for they have refused my judgments and my statutes, they have not walked in them. (KJV)
Thus saith the LORD GOD . . . is found 227 times in the Old Testament in the King James Version, 127 of those times here in the Book of Ezekiel. Jerusalem was not only the chief city of Judea, but of the whole world, according to Almighty God. Jerusalem was the chief city of all of them; and was different from the nations by unusual and special favors and blessings, both natural and spiritual. It was a land flowing with milk and honey; and had the House and worship of GOD in it; and Jerusalem was where there were the symbols of His Presence, His Word and His Ordinances . . . so, it should have excelled in TRUE religion, devotion and holiness, and set an example to them. I have set her in the midst of the nations refers to the central location of Palestine in the midst of the three continents, Europe, Asia, and Africa; and the nations were literally in all directions from Jerusalem. Jerusalem was the head, heart and center of the Earth. Ezekiel 38:12 To take a spoil, and to take a prey; to turn thine hand upon the desolate places that are now inhabited, and upon the people that are gathered out of the nations, which have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the midst of the land. (KJV)
Jerusalem was unusual in that the Law might go forth out of Zion, and the Word of the LORD, and that all nations might flow into it. Isaiah 2:2-3 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD'S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.
3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. (KJV)
There are millions today who now think that Rome today has taken Jerusalem’s place to Christians. Dear one, they might THINK that way, BUT it is NOT the TRUTH of God’s Word. Rome has never, nor shall ever be the center of the world to Almighty God!
Revelation 17:5 And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. (KJV)
As for Jerusalem being set in the midst of the nations, I believe that Jerusalem is absolutely considered by the LORD God’s point of view as center of the whole Earth, intended to radiate the TRUE light over the nations in all directions.
Psalm 48:2 Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King. (KJV)
Jeremiah 3:17 At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of the LORD; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of the LORD, to Jerusalem: neither shall they walk any more after the imagination of their evil heart. (KJV)
Micah 4:1-4 But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it. 2 And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. 3 And he shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. 4 But they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree; and none shall make them afraid: for the mouth of the LORD of hosts hath spoken it. (KJV)
And countries that are round about her (Eze.5:5-6, above) . . . the picture that emerges here is that of a nation that is abundantly blessed with the ordinances and statutes of Almighty GOD, these repeated words being, are unconditional references to the Mosaic Law. Actually, the references to the Book of Moses are quite frequent from this chapter, and on to the very end of Ezekiel. It makes sense, because Ezekiel was a priest and knew the Law.
Jerusalem was designed to have a good influence upon the nations and countries around her, being set in the middle of them as a candle on a candlestick to spread the light of Divine revelation, which she was blessed with, to all the dark corners of the neighboring nations.
The LORD God now shows the reason why He was so determined to act so severely and harshly towards that Holy City which He had selected as His Royal Residence. Greater were the benefits with which He had adorned Jerusalem, but so much more was their corruption and immorality than was their gratitude.
Since GOD had described His benefits towards Jerusalem . . . reveals the reason for His condemning it. For IF the Jews had embraced the blessing of GOD, He no doubt would have enriched them more and more with His gifts: but when He saw how they rejected His love and favors, He was all the more furious with their rebellion. Dear one, contempt of GOD’S blessings, benefits and Word is actually blasphemous, irreverent and sacrilege. BEWARE!!! It will only bring down the righteous wrath of GOD on you, just like He did on the people in Ezekiel’s day.
