??WHY Won't People Study PROPHECY??

Even though PROPHECY is found in nearly one-third of the Bible, SO many people do NOT think it is important! They must think there is no real meaning or worth. How SAD!!! The WORTH of Prophecy cannot be counted! It is absolute. Then there are those fools who say that it is a short-lived "fad" that takes people's eyes off Jesus. OH! How wrong they are! Prophecy brings out SO many features about our Lord Jesus! We learn so much about Jesus from the prophecies!

WHAT does the Bible say?

Deut. 18:18 I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. (KJV)
John 1:45 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. (KJV)
John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. (KJV)
John 5:46 For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me. (KJV)
Luke 24:25 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: (KJV)
Luke 24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. (KJV)
Luke 24:44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. (KJV)
Acts 10:43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins. (KJV)
Rev. 19:10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. (KJV)

Prophecy stresses the importance and uniqueness of Jesus. Prophecy IS practical!  It should be applied to our everyday lives. IF we would just consider that ALL the New Testament writers support the fact that living with the eagerness of the Lord's Return will motivate our holy living. What could be more practical than that? Here's the way the Apostle John put it: 1 John 3:2-3 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. 3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. (KJV) https://www.godcannotlie.org/first_john_ch3.htm

Dear one, prophecy can and should be green pastures for disciples.

There are SO many reasons why ALL believers should be interested in studying Bible Prophecy. Consider some important reasons below:
<><><>#1. About one-third of the Bible is foretelling the future. In the Old Testament, this includes the Psalms, the Major and Minor Prophets, and many Passages in the Historical Books. In the New Testament, the entire books like 1 & 2 Thessalonians and Revelation are dedicated to Prophecy, and too, major Passages like Matthew 24 and 1 Peter 3. IF you simply ignore Bible Prophecy . . . you are ignoring a very important part of God's Holy Word. Please consider: 2 Tim. 3:16-17 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. (KJV) . . .
ALL Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness" — and that certainly includes Bible PROPHECY.

And please consider this one: Rom. 15:4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope. (KJV) . . . Does the Old Testament have any application to believers today? Absolutely! Do NOT be illiterate of God’s Word, that includes the Old Testament and PROPHECY!!! Read ALL of God’s Word2 Tim. 3:16-17 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. (KJV) . . . ALL Scripture was given for our learning!

<><><>#2. The Uniqueness . . . No other book in the world contains fulfilled prophecies. This includes the sayings of Buddha and Confucius, the Koran, the Hindu Vedras, and the Book of Mormon. And it certainly includes the ridiculous irrational stanzas of Nostradamas. In contrast, the Bible contains hundreds of specific prophecies that have already been fulfilled . . . prophecies about towns, cities, nations, empires, and political leaders, as well as prophecies about the Messiah. Consider, for example, the prophecy in the book of Isaiah that a man named Cyrus would be the one who would release the children of Israel from Babylonian captivity (Isaiah 44:28). And that is exactly what happened 142 years later (Ezra 1:1-3).

<><><>#3. Validator of Scripture . . . Fulfilled prophecy is one of the best conformation or proof I know of that the Bible is the inspired Word of God. The Bible contains hundreds of fulfilled nonspiritual prophecies pertaining to cities, nations, empires, and individuals. Isaiah prophesied that Babylon would fall to the Medes and Persians (Isaiah 13:17-20). Jeremiah predicted the Babylonian captivity of the Jews would last 70 years (Jeremiah 25:11-12). Daniel outlined in advance the precise order of four great Gentile empires (Daniel 2 and 7). The destruction of both Judah and Israel was foretold by Moses (Deut.28 and 29). In the New Testament, Jesus predicted the complete destruction of Jerusalem 40 years before it actually happened (Luke 21:6).

<><><>#4. Prophecy Validates Jesus . . . The Prophetic Scriptures PROOVE Jesus was Who He said He was . . . specifically, God in the flesh. The Bible contains more than 300 prophecies about the First Coming of Jesus, although some of these are repetitive. There are actually 109 separate and distinct prophecies concerning the First Coming, and ALL of them were accurately fulfilled. Every aspect of the life of Jesus was prophesied . . . the place of His birth, the nature of His birth, the quality of His ministry, the purpose of His life, and the agony of His death. If we consider this prophecy: Psalm 22:16 For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet. (KJV) . . . This prophecy about Jesus’ Hands and Feet being pierced, was written by David about 1000 years before Jesus’ birth! It was written at a time when the ONLY form of capital punishment among the Jewish people was that of stoning.
Psalm 22:17 I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me. (KJV) Read this again!! Do you SEE what this says? Again, this was written by David YEARS BEFORE Jesus was born! They beat Him SO SEVERELY that His bones were revealed. Let us NEVER stop thanking Jesus for what He did for US on that horrid cross?
The literal fulfillment of so many prophecies in the life of ONE individual far exceeds any mere coincidence and simply confirms that Jesus WAS Who He said He was . . . the Divine and Holy Son of God.

<><><>#5. Revealer of the Future . . . PROPHECY is God telling us some things that He wants us to know about the future.
Deut. 29:29 The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law. (KJV) . . . Prophecy is the LORD’S secret things that He wants us to know.
Amos 3:7 Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets. (KJV) . . . This refers to the punishment, correction, or blessing of His people . . . He shows them things to come. Such secrets of God (prophecies) are revealed to them, that they may inform the people; that, by repentance and renewal, they can avoid evil, and, by walking closely with God, secure the extension of His favor. PROPHECY is for our good! Please do NOT avoid it. It is fascinating.

Our awesome Triune God, does NOT want us to know everything about the future, but there are some things we must know IF we are to have a vigorous hope. Dear one, prophecy assures us that Jesus IS coming back, and that He will resurrect us, and that He will take us to live forever with Him and God the Father when we leave this worldly life here on Earth.

<><><>#6. Prophecy Helps Us Understand Current Events . . . The Bible contains detailed prophecies about the end times we are living in, and there is just no way to fully understand much of what is happening today apart from those prophecies. Three characteristics of our day and time immediately come to mind: (1) the intensifying decay of society, (2) the increasing apostasy in the Church, and (3) the ever-increasing crisis in the Middle East. All three of these situations are prophesied in detail in the Bible. We are told that society will become as violent and immoral as it was in the days of Noah (Mat. 24:37-39); that the Church will be battered with “doctrines of demons” (1 Tim. 4:1); and that ALL the nations of the world will come against Israel over the issue of who will control Jerusalem (Zec.12:2-3).

<><><>#7. Signifier of the Season. One of the most exciting reasons for studying Bible prophecy is that it provides very definite signs that we are to watch for which will indicate the season of the Lord’s Return. We CANNOT know the date, but the Bible makes it clear that we can know the season if we KNOW what signs to look for . . . just like we know when winter is near. The Apostle Paul tells us: 1 Thes. 5:1-6 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.
2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. 3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. 4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. 5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. 6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. (KJV)

According to the above, Jesus shall come like “a thief in the night” for those who are not ‘watching’. IF you do not know what to look for, you shall be left behind when Jesus comes in the clouds at the Rapture (1 Thes.4:13-18). But those of us who know what to look for, will not be surprised when the Lord calls us up to Him, from this life here on Earth, because God’s Word gives us signs and prophecy to watch for.
After specifying many end time signs in His Olivet Discourse as recorded in Matthew 24. He said, “when you see all these things, recognize that He [Jesus] is near, right at the door” (Mat.24:33).

This is what Peter says about prophecy.
2 Peter 1:19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: (KJV)

We have also a more sure word of prophecy . . . when Peter says "the word of prophecy" he does not mean the prediction of the future, although he does include that. He means the entire Word of God, because he speaks of the Scriptures as having been spoken by God (verse 21).
The Old Testament prophets said that the Messiah would come. They spoke about His power and His glory. Peter’s experience on the holy mountain showed that the prophets were right. He tells his readers that they could completely trust the Scriptures. People also call the Scriptures 'God’s Word' and the 'Bible'. Peter described the Scriptures as 'a lamp'. Psalms 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. (KJV)
People often describe the world as a dark place, meaning that there is much sin in the world. In the dark, people cannot see where to go. But the Holy Word of God is a LIGHT . . . to show people how to live in the right way.
The day . . . is what the Old Testament calls the day of the Lord. It refers to the time when God will judge the world. Malachi 4:5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: (KJV) . . . This is the day when Jesus will return. For Christians, it is a day of going Home! TRUE Christians eagerly expect and look forward to it.
The day star . . . is what we call Venus. It appears just before dawn. It shows that a new day is going to start. Jesus said "I am… the bright morning star" (Rev. 22:16). Numbers 24:17 says, "there shall come a Star out of Jacob". Jews believed that this was a Promise about the Messiah.
When Jesus returns, He will fill Christians with His glory and His light. They will know Him and they will be like Him (1 John 3:2). BUT. . . we must use the ‘lamp’ of the Scriptures until Jesus comes back!
More on Christ as the morning star (Num.24:17; Luke 1:78; Eph. 5:14; Rev. 2:28; 22:16).
2 Peter 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. (KJV)
Knowing this first . . . Simon Peter says that this is the first thing we are to know. The word knowing means a knowledge that comes, not only from the Word of God, not only from facts that can be discovered . . . if you really want to know, you can find out if the facts in the Bible are accurate or not. A Christian has the Holy Spirit (John 14:16-17; Rom.8:9), and He will help you discern Truth from error! The Holy Spirit can make the Truth real to you.
The Spirit of God has made the Word of God real to my heart. I KNOW there is a transforming power in God's Word. There is power in the Word of God. This is something that we CAN know, and the Truth, confirmed by the Holy Spirit, make it real to us.
No prophecy of the Scripture is of any private interpretation . . . meaning it did NOT proceed from the prophet's own knowledge or invention, or was the offspring of his calculation or his guessing.
Jeremiah 23:16 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you: they make you vain: they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the LORD. (KJV) . . . Jeremiah says that the false prophets in the Old Testament spoke "of their own heart." They did NOT speak words that came from God.
But the TRUE prophets did NOT make up their message. They did NOT decide what to say, God TOLD them what to say! TRUE prophecy is a message from God. God told the prophets what to say, and the Holy Spirit gave them the power that they needed to preach to the people.
Peter said that the people could trust the prophets’ message.
2 Peter 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. (KJV)
For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man . . . the prophetical writings, or word of prophecy (verse 19). The prophets spoke, NOT of themselves, or what and when they pleased. They were God's humble servants and spoke what He told them to say and when and where to say it.
But holy men of God . . . the prophets were called men of God (1 Sam. 2:27; 9:6-7,10; 1 Ki. 12:22; 13:1,4-8,11-14; 17:18,24; 2 K.1:10-13; 4:9,16,21-22,25-27), and and many other places. They are here called holy, not only because of their lives, wherein they were examples to others, but because they were the special instruments of the Holy Ghost, who sanctified them to the work of preaching, and writing what He dictated to them.
Spake as they were moved . . . the prophets acted and moved far above their own natural abilities. Because of their flawless gift from God, that they might not err in prophecy, to foretell things to come, and a special insight of the Holy Ghost, they were moved to preach and/or write, and what they said or wrote was always TRUE! Many of the prophecies of Christ were fulfilled, and the remainder SHALL be soon I think.
See Messianic Prophecies: . . . http://www.lastdaysprophecy.org/L_D_messianic_prophecies.htm

Here is one prophecy that blows my mind:
The Prophecy: Joshua 6:26 And Joshua adjured them at that time, saying, Cursed be the man before the LORD, that riseth up and buildeth this city Jericho: he shall lay the foundation thereof in his firstborn, and in his youngest son shall he set up the gates of it. (KJV) . . . This was fulfilled to the letter, 520 years later!
The fulfillment of that prophecy: 1 Kings 16:34 In his days did Hiel the Bethelite build Jericho: he laid the foundation thereof in Abiram his firstborn, and set up the gates thereof in his youngest son Segub, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Joshua the son of Nun. (KJV)
There are many more! I dearly love prophecy! To me, prophecies PROVE the Bible is TRUE!
https://www.lastdaysprophecy.org/L_D_messianic_prophecies.htm

2 Peter 1:19-21 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: 0  Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. (KJV)
1 Cor. 2:9-10 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. 10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. (KJV)

Spiritual Food

Prophecy is food for our soul (our spiritual growth). We need to feast on it with believing hearts.

The book of Revelation promises blessings to those who read it (or hear it read) and who obey it.
Rev. 1:3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand. (KJV) . . . It is the ONLY Book in the Bible to promise such a precise blessing . . . but, dear one, ALL God's Word is intended to bless us spiritually (Psalm 119), and that absolutely includes Prophecy.

Bible prophecy can actually transform a person. This will happen if the person can be persuaded of two things about prophecy: #1. Jesus shall return, and #2. He could come at any time.

I think that most Christians believe with their minds that Jesus shall return, but I do not think that they believe it in their hearts, because there is no effect on their lives. And . . . most Christians do not know that Jesus’ Return of will be in two steps . . . #1. the Rapture, and #2. the Second Coming at the end of the Tribulation.

Because they know little or nothing about the Rapture, they do not understand that the Lord could really return for the believers at any time. Some believe that many prophecies . . . like the preaching of the Gospel to the whole world . . .  must be fulfilled before the Lord can return, when the truth of the matter is that there is NOT one prophecy that must be fulfilled for the Rapture to occur. The Rapture is the next event on God’s calendar!

IF a person or church can truly be persuaded that Jesus COULD Return at any moment, their lives will be changed because they will then be encouraged to share the Gospel with others and to commit their lives to holiness and obedience. Bible prophecy is NOT just for the future. It is spiritually important to the way we live our lives now, in the present.
